The 44th General Assembly of ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly

Many may wonder about the duties of a Member of the Legislative Council beyond the annual meeting. As those who follow my Instagram story updates will know, our work extends beyond national events. We actively engage in dialogues with various agencies and authorities, working together to devise solutions that ensure all matters raised during our meetings are appropriately addressed.

Earlier this month, I had the honour of heading the Brunei delegation at the Meeting of Young Parliamentarians of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (YPA). Our discussion this year centred around a Draft Resolution on Advancing Youth Engagement for Inclusive Development, Economic Transformation, and Democratic Participation.

I was also privileged to witness a significant transition, which was the transformation of the Meeting of Young Parliamentarians of AIPA into a standing committee, complete with its own Rules of Procedure.

It is encouraging to see the voices of our youth being acknowledged. As we navigate intergenerational challenges, it is important that these issues are addressed by all age groups. We continue to advocate the rights and interests of young people, addressing a diverse range of issues that significantly impact our generation.
